It was fitted with Eurostar type bogies that had third rail collection shoes. The locomotive was renumbered 83301. During the tests it was semi-permanently coupled to Class 73 73205. 83301 was unpowered, being used to collect current from the 3rd rail which was then transferred to the 73 via heavy duty cabling to provide motive power.
