When built the Class 47 fleet was not fitted for multiple working, however a number of locomotives were subsequently fitted with equipment that included a front end mounted multiple connector socket. This socket was normally fitted either on the headcode panel or on the cab front below the headcode panel offset slightly to the left of centre; an example picture of 47815 is attached.

Power for electric trains is collected from the OHLE conductor wire by the pantograph; the traction return current is passed through the wheels to the return rail, from there, it is carried through Red Bonds to the return conductor via lineside Connection Anchor Boxes.
Red Bonds are therefore an extremely important part of the OHLE infrastructure, and are seen a regular intervals along the lineside.SET E5-4 is supplied unpainted; a light coat of primer is recommended before painting / weathering to suit your lineside. They Bond Cables from the running rail and the Connection Anchors are always painted Red to make them easily distinguishable for track workers.
